Opinel N°08 Oak – iconic French folding knife with an oak handle

Opinel N°08 Oak is a refined version of one of the world's most recognisable folding knives. The iconic N°08 construction is combined with a natural French oak handle, giving this model a sophisticated appearance while retaining the simplicity and functionality associated with Opinel.

The versatile N°08 size provides an excellent balance between cutting performance and portability, making the knife suitable for everyday use, travelling, picnics, hiking, camping and other outdoor activities.

8.5 cm stainless steel blade

The Opinel N°08 Oak features an 8.5 cm martensitic stainless steel blade. The European-origin stainless steel used by Opinel is optimised to provide high corrosion resistance combined with excellent mechanical performance.

The steel has a hardness of 55–57 HRC. It provides excellent sharpness and high abrasion resistance, allowing the blade to retain its cutting performance during regular use while remaining suitable for resharpening.

Unlike carbon steel, stainless steel requires no special maintenance under ordinary conditions of use. However, prolonged exposure to aggressive environments such as acids, salt water or strong detergents should be avoided.

French oak handle

The defining feature of the Opinel N°08 Oak is its natural oak handle. Opinel sources the oak used for this model from France.

Oak is a hard and highly resistant wood. Its high tannin content provides natural resistance to insects and fungi. The wood has a characteristic yellow-brown appearance with regular natural grain.

The natural structure of the oak gives each knife its own character and provides a more refined appearance than the standard beechwood N°08.

10.9 cm handle – classic N°08 format

The handle measures 10.9 cm. This classic N°08 format provides enough space for a comfortable grip while keeping the knife compact and easy to carry.

Virobloc® safety ring

The knife features Opinel's patented Virobloc® safety ring, invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955. Made from stainless steel, the system consists of a fixed section and a sliding section.

The Virobloc® system locks the blade in two positions: open for safer use and closed for safer transport. This helps prevent the blade from accidentally folding during use or opening while the knife is being carried.
