The main advantage of this model is its mirror sighting function with a sighting hole, allowing you to view the compass dial and the reference point in the terrain at the same time. This makes bearing taking more accurate, especially in open terrain where long-distance direction finding is important.

The Silva Ranger S features a rubber grip for easier handling, a use-anywhere declination scale inside the capsule, a rotatable housing compatible with the SILVA 1-2-3 System®, and map measuring scales in mm, 1:25,000 and 1:50,000. It also includes 45-degree angle assistance on the mirror sighting function. Luminous markings support navigation in low light or at night, while the robust construction is made to withstand demanding outdoor use.
